I think the much more likely case is that he wants to recreate the glitch because it allows him to get free gold by cheating (which is fine, it's a singleplayer game after all), and the methods that other people have described here, offer free gold in a much easier way. Your whole argument is based on an assuption that I think is not sound, which is that he wants to recreate the glitch simply for the sake of recreating it.
